The men’s and women’s singles draws for Australian Open 2021 have been revealed at Melbourne Park on Friday afternoon.
Eight-time and defending Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is the top seed in the men’s draw, while Australia’s Ashleigh Barty is the No.1 seed in the women’s field.
Djokovic begins his Australian Open title defence against Frenchman Jeremy Chardy and has landed in arguably the toughest section of the men’s draw.
The world No.1 finds himself in a quarter with a host of current and former top-10 players – Alexander Zverev, Gael Monfils, Milos Raonic and Stan Wawrinka – and could meet Dominic Thiem in the semifinals in a rematch of last year’s final.
Serena Williams’ path to a record-equaling 24th major trophy is set, with the 39-year-old on course to face Simona Halep, Naomi Osaka and Barty in succession.
Seven Grand Slam singles champions – four of them former No.1s – lurk in Williams’ half of the draw, while top seed Barty could meet defending champion and fourth seed Sofia Kenin in a semifinal rematch from last year.
