If you had “surprise Taylor Swift album” on your 2020 bingo card, today is your lucky day. The pop superstar announced Thursday morning that she will release her eighth studio album, Folklore, at midnight EST on Friday, July 24.
Swift shared the news on Twitter, uploading a picture of the album cover with a note detailing her experience making the album.
“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen,” Swift wrote. “And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise! Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.”
Swift worked with a handful of high-profile collaborators on Folklore, including Bon Iver, The National’s Aaron Dessner and longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, whom she calls “basically musical family at this point.”
