
On This Date: Wyoming Valley natives returned to teach some football in 1947 – Wilkes Barre Times-Leader

A couple former Wyoming Valley residents came back to teach some football in 1947.
Wilkes-Barre’s Ralph “Horse” Chase and Plymouth’s Pete Stevens were among the instructors at the second annual football coaches clinic at the Rutter Avenue School in Kingston. The two-day event was hosted by the Wyoming Valley Coaches Association.
Chase was the head coach at Drexel Institute of Technology, later known as Drexel University. Stevens was an assistant coach at Temple, where as a player he was the starting center on the unbeaten 1934 team.
Also on hand were St. Bonaventure head coach Hugh Devore and Allentown High head coach Birney Crum.
